No pain no gain for Accies ace Imrie

- GORDON PARKS

DOUGIE IMRIE is ready to push through the pain barrier to book Hamilton’s Premiership survival.

The Accies talisman suffered bruised ribs and a bang on the face during Thursday night’s play-off final first-leg stalemate at Dundee United.

But after being checked over at hospital Imrie, 33, is adamant he’ll take an injection to ensure he lines up in a clash that will decide Accies’ top-flight future at the Superseal Stadium tomorrow.

He said: “I got kneed in the ribs and I don’t have long to get better.

“I don’t know if that means taking ibuprofen or a jag but if I need to play through the pain barrier then I am willing to do it.

“I’m in pain. I also got an elbow in the face but I don’t know what the ref saw. He said it was accidental.”

Imrie admits he hasn’t played in a more chaotic match after United’s Wato Kuate lost the plot and Simon Murray was wrongly dismissed for diving.

He said: “It was a crazy game. I don’t know if I’ve played in one like that but it was enjoyable. We go back to our place now and hopefully we get the result we deserve.”

Accies’ Scott McMann isn’t sure if he deserved to concede a late penalty after a lunge at Murray which got him sent off.

He said: “There wasn’t much contact but I haven’t watched it back. Bottle is everything tomorrow.

“We have boys who have been through this before and we can draw on that.”
