GRAEME SHINNIE reckons his old club Inverness must be torturing themselves after letting Stuart Armstrong slip through the net.

The Celtic ace has been one of the stars of the season for the Hoops and Shinnie still can’t believe the playmaker got punted when they were together in the Highlands.

Armstrong was let go as a kid in 2009 when the Caley Jags were forced in to making huge cutbacks in the wake of relegation.

The youth set-up got the chop and the midfield schemer went on to try his luck at Dundee United and never looked back.

Shinnie said: “Stuart was at Inverness at the same time as me, he was coming through in the Under-17s when I was in the U-19s.

“Caley released him because they needed to cut money after being relegated – which was a major mistake on their part. They will be kicking themselves for that.

“You could see he had a lot of potential but the decision was financial because of what happened.

“He took a hit being released at that age but what he’s done since has all been down to him. He’s gone from strength to strength.”
