Lennon snapsup Simon

-

HIBS have clinched the signing of Dundee United striker Simon Murray.

And the Easter Road club have also submitted an offer for Israeli keeper Ofir Marciano after securing defender Liam Fontaine on a new one-year deal.

Murray informed United of his decision to make the switch to Neil Lennon’s side after Sunday’s defeat to Hamilton Accies in the Premiership play-off final.

The move – which is expected to be confirmed today – completes an amazing transformation for Murray who was working as a plumber and playing junior just four years ago.

The former Arbroath star was out of contract at Tannadice and had also been linked with Partick Thistle and St Johnstone.

But Hibs have won the fight for his signature and Murray will now follow in the footsteps of father Gary who enjoyed a four-year spell at Easter Road.

His exit is a blow for United boss Ray McKinnon who said: “We offered Simon a deal but we could not compete with what he could get elsewhere.”

Lennon is also closing in on a permanent deal for loan star Marciano.

Reports in Israel last night claimed Hibs had tabled an offer to Marciano’s parent club Ashdod.

The 27-year-old has a year left to run on his deal with Ashdod but wants to return to Scotland.
