Thousands make fake bids for free briefs offered to fans at tragic Grande concert

MORE than 10,000 ghouls have tried to cash in on the Manchester atrocity by falsely claiming they were at last week’s Ariana Grande gig – in a bid to get free tickets for Sunday’s tribute concert and sell them on.

The 14,200 fans who attended on May 22 and were caught up in the horror of the terrorist attack which left 22 people dead were eligible for free tickets to Sunday’s One Love Manchester show.

The gig features stars including Justin Bieber, Take That and Little Mix.

But ticket website Ticketmaster revealed last night they had received 25,000 applications for the briefs.

Fans who attended Ariana’s gig last week joined politicians in condemning the sick attempts to profit from the benefit gig.

Ticketmaster managing director Andrew Parsons said: “Sadly, more than 10,000 unscrupulous applications have been made.”

The firm said touts attempting to profit will have their tickets cancelled.

Former Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell said the numbers of people falsely applying was “appalling”.

She said: “I think it’s disgusting if any ticket touts are trying to make money off this concert.

“The concert is going to be a difficult but fantastic moment for everyone to come together, especially for all of those who were at the concert two weeks ago.

“For anybody to try to make money out of that is shocking and appalling.”

Our sister paper the Daily Mirror was contacted by several distraught families planning to attend the tribute show to get closure after the tragedy. Abbie Sisson, 25, bought the tickets for her sister Poppie’s 10th birthday from a buyer on website Twickets, who couldn’t attend.

She was staggered when she got back in touch with the seller for the original booking number to help with her application to be told he had registered for the free tickets himself.

Abbie said: “He has no remorse at all for what he’s done and doesn’t seem to care about what we’ve been through.

“We’re talking about a 10-year-old girl who is traumatised and I’m trying to help us deal with our trauma by going to that gig and showing Poppie that not every concert ends this way.”

Ticketmaster have since allocated the sisters the two tickets they are due.
