A SCHOOLBOY has been charged after allegedly brandishing a knife at a fellow pupil during a row over a girl.

The bust-up between the boys happened outside a secondary school in Aberdeenshire.

It was broken up when other pupils stepped in.

But the father of the third-year youngster alledgedly targeted has told how he feared another Bailey Gwynne tragedy. Bailey, 16, was stabbed to death by a schoolmate at Aberdeen’s Cults Academy in 2015.

The dad, who cannot be named to protect his son’s identity, said: “The only thing I could think about was the Bailey Gwynne incident.

“It only takes one stab wound. I just think we’ve had a near miss.” He said his son got a text from the other youth at 1.50pm on Monday seeking “urgent words” over a girl.

It’s claimed they met up outside school and the other boy butted his son on the nose. “A struggle ensued and he’s pulled out a lock blade knife,” said the dad.

“Other boys intervened to assist and my son pinned him to a railing.

“The teachers came out and the knife was seized.” The school’s head wrote to parents about the incident on Tuesday.

She wrote: “Staff acted swiftly in collaboration with the police to resolve the situation. Support will be offered to any of our young people should they require it.”

Police said a 14-year-old had been reported to the youth justice management unit. Aberdeenshire Council said they couldn’t comment.
