IDENTICAL twins Alastair and Finlay Wilson have many similarities – including amazing physiques honed by a mutual love of exercise – but they also share depression, which saw them both try to take their own lives.

Separated for the first time at 17 when they went to university, the pair struggled with anxiety but didn’t confide in each other.

It was only when Alastair attempted suicide at 24 that Finlay revealed he was living with depression too.

Now aged 30, the brothers hope their experiences will encourage other young people to seek help for mental health problems.

Every day, 19 young people don’t get the help they need for mental health problems according to SAMH, Scottish Association of Mental Health. Half of mental health problems in adulthood begin before the age of 14, and three-quarters by age 24.

But with support, it is possible to recover from or learn to manage a mental health problem.

The mental health charity are urging everyone to join their campaign at samh.org.uk/ goingtobe and help give our young people every chance to get the help they need.

Alastair and Finlay are learning to manage their depression after seeking help.

Yoga teacher Finlay has become a YouTube sensation with his kilted yoga demonstrations, while Alastair is an award-winning body builder, happily married with a young family.

Here, they describe their own mental health battles that have strengthened their bonds.
