PENA JETS IN TO SIGN
Mexican will join Jack at Gers
RANGERS target Carlos Pena was travelling through the night to clinch his move to Ibrox – after thanking Pedro Caixinha for making his dream come true.
Pena is on the brink of completing a career-changing transfer across the
Atlantic after catching a flight from Mexico City yesterday morning in order to undergo a medical in Glasgow later today.
The attacking midfielder, with 19 caps for Mexico, will require a work permit but believes a deal will be done. Pena, 27, told local reporters the move that will take him from Chivas to Ibrox would not have been done without Caixinha pushing it through.
He said: “It’s my dream to go to Europe and I hope everything will go alright. “My aim is to get back to my former level of play, to do things right and to get along with Mr Caixinha and all the supporters over there.
“My agent and I were looking for this but it was Caixinha who made it possible.”
Rangers completed the signing of Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack on a three-year deal and the midfielder can’t wait to get started.
Jack said: “The 2-1 game when Rangers beat Aberdeen here was probably the best atmosphere I’ve experienced in my career.
“I was on the losing side that day and it was a difficult one to take but it’s atmospheres like that and the European nights under the lights you want to play in.”
Jack has also set his sights on winning his first cap for Scotland. He has played at every level to Under-21 and was called up to the senior squad by Gordon Strachan for a World Cup qualifier against Croatia in June 2013.
He added: “If the Scotland call comes with my form being good and playing every week at Rangers then I will be more than delighted with that.”
Meanwhile, Rangers chiefs are not considering Norwich’s Joe Savage for the vacant director of football role. Savage’s name was put forward by a third party to a low level but the club have no interest.
