THE husband of a Scots newlywed who plunged to her death from a holiday apartment in Benidorm has welcomed a probe into the tragedy.

Kirsty Maxwell died after falling from a 10th floor balcony in the popular Spanish resort on April 27.

The 27-year-old, from Livingston, was part of a group of more than 30 women who had travelled to Benidorm for a hen weekend.

A Spanish judge has now placed all five men who were in the apartment with Kirsty before she died under formal investigation.

Last night, Kirsty’s husband Adam – who she married in September last year – said he was “a step closer to finding out the truth” about how she perished.

In his first television interview, he told STV: “It’s another step to finding out the truth and what happened.

“It’s what our lawyer was pushing for from day one, so it’s a welcome bit of news.

“My understanding is there are dates set for the men to return to court and they would be questioned behind closed doors.”

He added: “Those men that were there must know what happened. All I want to know is the truth.” It is understood Kirsty may have become “disorientated” and ended up in a room directly above hers at the Apartmentos Payma building.

The men, from England, will now be required to give evidence.

Adam said he had no idea how Kirsty had ended up in the apartment.

But he dismissed suggestions she may have been sleepwalking, insisting she had not done it in the nine years they had known each other.
