A BOXER has been found guilty of an 11-year campaign of violence and intimidation against three former girlfriends.

Controlling Brendan Smith, 33, slapped and punched the women during violent rages.

The thug dragged one frightened victim down the stairs to the danger of her life during one altercation.

Jacqueline McHugh, 28, Kelly Seaman, 35, and Audrey Beljaflah, 32, were all forced to give evidence against the brute during a five-day trial at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

Members of Smith’s family sobbed in the public gallery as he was convicted of six charges.

He is facing a jail sentence after Sheriff Frank Pieri told him: “You have been convicted of extremely serious matters.”

Smith, of Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, was found guilty of assaulting former fiancee Jacqueline in the incident on the stairs between October 2010 and November 2014.

On another occasion, he seized her by the throat and in a separate incident behaved in a threatening or abusive manner towards her, shouting and punching walls, as well as hitting himself in the face.

He was also convicted of repeatedly pushing and slapping Jacqueline on the head.

Charges that he pushed her on to a bed, placed his hands around her neck, and placed a cushion over her face while straddling her were dropped.

Smith was also convicted of assaulting and repeatedly contacting Kelly, another former girlfriend, via phone and text message between August 2003 and December 2009.

The court heard that Smith seized hold of her, struggled with her and punched her after a night out in Glasgow in 2003.

In evidence, Kelly told the court she always had “grab marks” on her arms during their relationship.

Smith repeatedly contacted her by telephone and text message demanding to see her.

He was also convicted of phoning Audrey, another ex-girlfriend, and threatening her and her mum between January and February 2013.

He was also convicted of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards her between October and December 2012 and on one occasion demanding Audrey remained in a house with him.

He then said he would assault himself if she left and punched himself in the face.

Alan Haggart, prosecuting, told the court that Smith
