Pub bouncer threw glasses at murderers

- MARTIN FRICKER

A BOUNCER saved the lives of pub customers by hurling chairs and glasses at the London Bridge killers.

Ozzie Gandaa, 33, tackled the three terrorists after they stabbed a barmaid outside The Wheatsheaf in Borough Market – despite believing they were wearing suicide vests.

He said: “I was throwing chairs, whatever we could find, to corner them off and get them focused on me rather than other people.

“One of my friends, one of the bar staff, she was stabbed. I thought I couldn’t live with myself if she didn’t make it back, if I didn’t do more.

“Once they got a little bit closer to me, I realised the severity of the situation.

“I saw the knives, that didn’t scare me as much, I still felt I could do something, so I still proceeded to walk towards them.

“I looked down at one of the gentleman and saw that he had what looked to me like a bomb.

“That’s when I decided I needed to get everyone out. I had another security member with me and I just told him and anyone in the area to run.

“After the whole situation I actually sat back and thought, ‘Oh, my God, I’ve saved these people.’”

Ozzie, of Earls Court, London, also said he was relieved when the attackers were shot dead – and he added: “I could even see fear in some of the police’s eyes.”

Speaking to Good Morning Britain at the scene, Ozzie also revealed that his mum “wasn’t happy” that he had put himself in danger.
