THE father of a baby girl whose death sparked a police investigation has told friends he’s “feeling heartbroken”.

Three-week-old Mikayla Haining died in hospital in Inverness a week ago.

Her death is being treated as “unexplained” and specialist officers, including a forensics team, are involved in the investigation.

Mikayla’s dad Tom Haining, a supermarket worker from Ardgour, Argyll, poured out his grief on Facebook.

The tot’s mum Shannon Davies also has another daughter. Shannon and Tom got engaged a year ago.

Neighbours said they recently moved into a flat in Mackay Road in the Hilton area of Inverness.

Mikayla died in the city’s Raigmore Hospital after being admitted last Thursday afternoon.

Police later screened off the couple’s flat and an officer was stationed outside.

Forensic teams examined the flat and door-to-door inquiries were carried out.

Friends passed on their condolences after Tom’s Facebook post.

Coco Dizzy Dinero said: “Stay strong, you’re not alone.”

Rachel Whelan posted: “There aren’t any words to describe how heartbroken I am for you all.”

Police said yesterday that inquiries were continuing.
