I CAN’T WAIT TO BE RE-UNITED

PREMIERSHIP LATEST MacLean has aim

SCOTT ALLAN insists he holds no fears about running a gauntlet of hate from Dundee United fans – because they booed him even when he was wearing a tangerine jersey.

The attacking midfielder joined Neil McCann’s Dundee on a seasonlong loan deal from Celtic as he returned to the City of Discovery on the other side of the football divide.

Allan clinched a dream move to West Brom in a £300,000 switch in 2012 after controversially turning down the offer of a new deal.

As an upcoming 19-year-old, Allan snubbed the deal in September 2011 and received a rollicking from then Tannadice gaffer Peter Houston for demanding big bucks despite only playing three Premiership matches.

Now the Dark Blues new boy is gearing up to face his old club in the Betfred Cup at the end of July.

But Allan said: “The last time I had a tangerine jersey on I was getting booed by my own fans.

“It was against Hibs and I’ll not forget that one. I know I’ll bump into Dundee United fans and can’t wait!

“I know there is a derby coming up but for me it is just all about getting a full pre-season under my belt and to play some games to get firing before the start of the season.”

Allan has set his sights on shedding his forgotten man image following an unsuccessful loan spell at Rotherham last season.

He said: “I spoke to the manager and liked what I heard. This is the right place for me just now. It is a big year just to get back playing football week in, week out.

“The first year I was at Celtic I made a number of appearances off the bench and then last season I took a gamble moving down to Rotherham with Alan Stubbs.

“But it didn’t work out with the way we played. It didn’t suit me. I thought it was better being back up the road beside my family and STEVEN MacLEAN has set his sights on playing for Scotland – in the Commonwealth Games.

The veteran St Johnstone striker has taken up bowls and fancies giving it a go when he’s forced to retire from football.

Macca, 34, said: “I’m going to dedicate myself to it when I finish playing.

“If I do that then who knows, I could end up in the Commonwealth Games.”
