MARK MILLAR won the League One title with Livingston last season but today he’ll undergo the first job interview of his life as he tries to become a salesman with an energy firm.

The former Scotland Under-21 midfielder is only 29 but after rejecting the offer on the table from Livi he’s out of work and wishes he had followed the example of ex-Tannadice teammate Stuart Armstrong.

Millar said: “When I was a young player at Celtic I thought I was set for life but I wasn’t.

“You need to think about the bigger picture and it took me a while to realise that.

“My advice to younger players would be to make a start on another career outside football you can fall back on. If I could go back and change that I would.

“I was lucky I’d played with Steven Pressley at Celtic and he took me to Falkirk. I’d great times there and went to Dundee United.

“I was full-time at a big club and you don’t think about the future. Now I realise I should have. Look at Stuart Armstrong – he’s the perfect example.

“At Celtic we would be sent to college every Wednesday but most of us didn’t care about stuff like that. We’d go one week then miss two.

“We just stayed in the house. We were all living the high life playing for Celtic – one of the biggest clubs in the world. We thought we had the world at our feet. We thought we had everything. In reality we had nothing.

“But look at Stuart. His football could set him up for life but he’ll also have his law degree to fall back on.

“Hats off to him for that. He’s the guy every young footballer should look up to.

“He proves if you work hard on and off the pitch you can do really well.”
