REJECT PLANS TO FIGHT BACK

and another one opening. These boys give me the hunger and keep me motivated.

“I played in the same team as them and they’ve become successful and I want to be doing what they’re doing.”

It’s an abrupt halt to a career that had Chalmers rated as one of Celtic’s highly-rated young talents.

And he insists the shock of being deemed surplus to requirements isn’t something you can prepare for.

He said: “It’s like having the comfort blanket ripped off you.

“But I had a loan spell at Falkirk when I was at Celtic and that helped me prepare for this. After being at Celtic for such a long time then finding yourself at another club and in a different environment you don’t know what to expect.

“But being on loan at Falkirk was a great experience for me at the right time. It’s a great club and it taught me there was life after Celtic if things didn’t work out and there are still good clubs out there and options.

“Being told you aren’t wanted is something you need to use to motivate yourself. If you don’t do that it will affect you more.

“I need to try to turn it into someclosing thing positive. I need to try to find that extra couple of per cent and keep going. People talk about trying to prove people wrong but that’s not me. I just want to prove myself right.

“I want to prove I can get to the level where I’ve always wanted to be and where I should be.”

Chalmers is now waiting patiently for a call. He said: “As soon as the season finished I went to Tenerife with my girlfriend.

“I wanted to get an early holiday so I could come back and be available if I get a phone call. I’ll be ready if something comes up.”
