BUCKY IN LOVE

Bride and groom raise smiles on big day with Buckfast-themed ceremony

IT’S BEEN at the centre of controversy over the years but Buckfast will always have a special place in the hearts of Colin and Karen Hunter – after they made it the theme for their wedding.

Colin loves the tonic wine so much that Karen knew he’d want it as part of their big day – and it certainly was.

The Glasgow couple had a Bucky-themed cake, Buckfast favours and the best man gifted the groom a personalised bottle of the plonk.

The bar even got involved, bringing in Buckfast to sell by the glass or the slightly-less-classy Buckybomb shot.

Karen insists the drink is “not her cup of tea” but she added: “My husband loves Buckfast.

“Both of us don’t eat cake so I suggested we went for the fun factor and instead of having a traditional cake go for a cake that looks like a wedding cake at the front but at the back it’s Buckfast.

“Colin was delighted as that’s just him. It’s the only drink that he likes.

“We also decided to have Buckfast favours for the men and Colin was presented with a personalised hip flask filled with Buckfast.

“He had a few swigs before I came down the aisle and then, when we were signing the register, he managed to persuade me to take a swig, to delighted cheers from guests.

“The guests loved it, they couldn’t believe I did it. But it was all about Colin and I, and I knew he would love the idea. Even my mum and dad tried the Buckfast miniatures, only a taste but it was so much fun.”
