Soldiers killed on firing range named
TWO soldiers killed in a tank training exercise have been named.
Corporal Matthew Hatfield, 27, and Corporal Darren Neilson, 31, of the Royal Tank Regiment, died from injuries they suffered at Castlemartin firing range in Pembrokeshire, Wales, on Wednesday.
Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Simon Ridgway described the two men as “exceptionally talented soldiers who loved what they did”.
He said: “The regiment has lost two real characters and feels truly honoured to have served with them.
“They will both be sorely missed.”
The Ministry of Defence said two other soldiers remained in a serious condition in hospital.
Tanks and armoured units carry out live firing exercises at the range.
