MANY of us dread growing older – worried about what we’ll no longer be able to do.

But granny Joyce Williams is out to show the world how positive life can be when you’re over 80.

She’s embraced new technology and has even launched her own blog using the name Grandma Williams.

Joyce writes about her travels, having fun, walks and even touches on sex in your 80s. She jokes it’s best to leave the lights on for this – as the dark is dodgy at this age and could mean you’ll fall over climbing into bed.

She also discusses the practicalities of life, such as wishing someone would design a stylish age-friendly bath that’s easy for an oldie to get in and out of with a place to rest a glass of gin.

Joyce, 82, who lives in Glasgow, has faced heartache but says she’s now the happiest she’s ever been. And even though she admits she doesn’t know how many years she might have left, she says this makes her enjoy every moment.

“Within the next four or five years I will probably be dead,” she says, without a trace of sadness. “It makes you value life that much more. You don’t worry about dying – it’s going to happen.

Joyce had only used a computer for emails but took a blogging course last July and now knows her way around the internet and social media. She sought advice from her grandsons in their 20s.

“I’d come across this word ‘blogger’ and thought, ‘What is this?’”, she said. “The more nerdy grandson was into computers and I asked, ‘What’s this blogging?’. He told me what it was more or less but hadn’t a clue how you did it.

“Then I saw this sign from Lucky 52 saying blogging for beginners so I thought I’d go.

“It was hilarious. I was in my 80s and they were all under 40 and most under 30 but they were lovely. I was entering their world and learning their language and I was introducing them to my world which they didn’t know either.

“They taught us how to blog – how to set one up and I asked, ‘What do we blog about?’

“They said you could choose and I realised there was nobody talking about old age as being a nice thing. All the media was talking about was terrible
