Fake Chernobyl test sex attacker is jailed
A FORMER Scots clergyman was jailed for 16 years yesterday for tricking victims into believing they had radiation poisoning from the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster before sexually abusing them.
At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, ex-trainee minister John Beaumont, 59, of Bury, admitted bodily harm and indecent assault.
Victims went to police in 2014, 20 years after they had been attacked. Beaumont posed as a doctor and university researcher to target victims. He got them to undress then inserted hypodermic needles into their arms, neck and genitals.
Judge Paul Lawton heard Beaumont has previous convictions for more than 40 similar offences in Scotland during the 70s and 80s.
