Euro millions will help Celts to a perfect 10

FORMER CELTIC skipper Tom Boyd reckons if Brendan Rodgers’s side can secure the £30million jackpot for reaching the Champions League group stage again then 10 in a row will become a reality.

Boyd watched on in awe last season as the Hoops swept all before them to land an Invincible domestic treble.

The Hoops also held their own during the Champions League group encounters which saw them paired with Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Rodgers’s men will next month begin their quest to reach the group stage again after seeing off Lincoln Red Imps, Astana and Hapoel Be’er Sheva last term to take their seat at Europe’s top table.

The first and second round qualifying draws for this season’s Champions League take place in Nyon today.

Celtic will learn their Euro fate as they enter the competition at the second qualifying round phase with the ties starting on July 11-12.

The Hoops are the highest seeded team in the second round.

Boyd is convinced if Celtic achieve their aim, landing another massive cash windfall in the process, it will make it even harder for the rest of Scotland to compete financially with them for the foreseeable future.

Asked if another run to the Champions League group stage could help Celtic clinch 10 in a row, Boyd said: “It’s very possible, especially if Brendan can improve the team again and bring in more quality players.

“There’s a lot of things that can happen in football but at this moment in time looking at the gulf, there’s not many teams that can match Celtic.

“The impact Brendan has made has been incredible and he is only just starting.

“He wants the team to compete in the Champions League.

“The club as a whole should be well prepared for it this term as long as they don’t get that kind of tough group again. It’s going to take a lot to stop Celtic.”
