strengthen for the Champions League. If we are serious about making an impact we need at least two big-money players.”

The recruitment drive at Rangers continues and opinion is split over Pedro Caixinha’s recent arrivals.

Trevor McDonald, Ballymena, said: “I can’t believe the number of Rangers fans complaining even before the new season starts.

“Surely we have to be positive behind the new manager and his signings. His attitude towards discipline is also 100 per cent.”

Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: “Is it true that with every season ticket, Rangers supporters will receive a sombrero, a pinata and a Portuguese phrase book?”

Derek McInnes has opted against taking charge at Sunderland to remain at Aberdeen but some believe he has an ulterior motive.

William Masson, Aboyne, said: “It’s great news that McInnes is staying with the Dons, it proves he still feels he can take us further.

“Contrary to opinion he wasn’t considered for the Rangers job earlier this year and if it doesn’t work out for Caixinha I doubt he’ll be considered then either.”

Keith Paterson, Glasgow, said: “McInnes is clearly hedging his bets as he knows the Rangers job will become available shortly when Caixinha is shunted out before Christmas.”

Jason Cummings was given a fond farewell from Hibs fans after his move to Nottingham Forest.

John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “I wish Jason all the best at his new club. However, I would have to ask just how much he has seen of Nottingham Forest lately. I have and if he can’t get in that team he may as well get on the first bus back up the road.”

Brian Stavert, Alexandria, said: “Good luck to Cummings. He can’t tackle, has the heart of a mouse and he’ll be back up on loan in three months’ time.”
