ONLINE ‘LOVE’ HAS FROZEN ME OUT NOW

-

Dear Coleen

I FELL for a guy I met online who lives in another country.

We talked on Instagram and messaged each other all the time. We really bonded over our tastes in music – we both love Drake – and things were pretty intense for two months.

Then we started university and drifted apart.

I understand that people get busy and we’re not a couple, but a potential relationship was on the way, so I don’t understand why he’s not missing me as much as I’m missing him.

He seems to have just moved on and forgotten about what we had. We were like potential lovers, but now we’re barely friends.

I feel stupid because I cared way too much for him, while he claims he treats all girls the same as he treated me and that he’s just a “positive energy”. What does that even mean? I feel broken.

Coleen says

WELL, it sounds to me like he never wanted more than a flirty online friendship and as soon as he got wind that you wanted more than that, he took a step back.

But, honestly, where did you see this going?

You live in different countries and have both just started university. And you’ve never even met. These aren’t solid foundations on which to build a serious relationship.

I think you need to focus on finding real relationships at uni and allow yourself to have a full and fun social life. Don’t miss out because you’re hooked to your devices.

I understand it hurts but you just have to learn from it and move on. Trust me, you will meet a lot of great people at uni – you just have to get involved.
