Keatings is winner we need at United

- ALAN MARSHALL

WILLO FLOOD insists Dundee United new boy James Keatings is the matchwinner they’ve been crying out for.

Gaffer Ray McKinnon has brought in the former Hibs striker, defender Tam Scobbie and wingers Billy King and Paul McMullan to help boost their Premiership promotion bid.

Flood has been impressed with the calibre of United’s summer signings after feeling they were too dependent on Norwich loan star Tony Andreu last season.

But it’s Keatings, 25, who scored eight goals in 30 games for Hibs last term, the Irishman is tipping to make the biggest impact at Tannadice.

Flood, who signed a new one-year deal last week, said: “Keatings is a matchwinner and I thought we lacked one or two of them. We were too reliant on Tony and when he went off the boil a bit we struggled.

“Keatings will create chances, his dead-balls are really good and he’ll come up with a bit of magic.

“We just lacked a bit of quality at the end of last season but the boss has made good signings and I fancy our chances. Let’s hope we can get promoted.”

Flood is desperate to win the Championship next season after the agony of United’s play-off final defeat by Hamilton.

He said: “I’ve got unfinished business. We’ll hopefully have a good pre-season and let’s see where that takes us.”
