HAD OUR FILL WITH DIESEL

-

THE road ahead looks like a bumpy one for owners of diesel cars.

Diesels currently make up 40 per cent of cars on the road.

But a poll of 1000 drivers found fewer than one in four of them would buy a diesel for their next car.

The fall follows Volkswagen’s diesel emissions scandal and threats by politicians to slap extra pollution taxes on diesels.

The poll by research firm Simpson Carpenter for Autocar magazine found just over half of current diesel drivers would buy another one. That compares to 78 per cent of petrol car owners who would get the same again.

Autocar editor Mark Tisshaw said: “These findings are a testament to the public battering diesel has taken over the last few years.”

The other big shift was both diesel and petrol drivers saying they planned to switch to electric or hybrid cars.
