Anniversary couple found dead at home
Mystery over double tragedy that rocked quiet residential community
POLICE investigating the deaths of a husband and wife have refused to rule out the possibility of a murder-suicide.
The bodies of Willie and Karen Flett were found in their home a week after their 37th wedding anniversary.
Officers say the deaths in Aberdeen are being treated as “unexplained”.
It is believed the couple had injuries and officers would not rule out possibilities that Willie and Karen committed suicide or that one killed the other before taking their own life.
Police are appealing for help in piecing together the last sightings of Aberdeen Airport taxi driver Willie, 56, in the hours before the tragedy on Wednesday night.
It’s believed he had told pals he was planning to do enough runs to earn £100 that evening before calling it a night.
Police have been examining his Peugeot taxi parked in front of his home in a bid to track his last movements via his sat-nav.
Emergency services were called to 51 Cornhill Terrace in north Aberdeen at 10.25pm.
Yesterday, the two-storey property remained sealed off with police tape as forensic teams looked for clues.
Willie and Karen, 56, who had two sons and several grandchildren, were believed to have separated at one time but had reconciled.
Their shocked sons Barry and Darryl declined to discuss the tragic events.
Neighbour Susan Watt, 54, said Karen was bubbly.
She added: “Karen would always say ‘hello’ and she was always pleasant.
“When she was hanging out her washing, she was always in her bare feet.”
On Wednesday night after going to bed, Susan said her eyes were drawn to the Flett house.
She said: “I thought I heard someone knocking on a window.
“I looked out and all the lights in their house were on and the blinds open. Only the bedroom was in darkness.
“I feel so sorry for Karen. I think she may have worked as a nurse.”
Inspector Simon Reid said: “The deaths are being treated as unexplained and extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.
“We can’t speculate on what may have happened. The incident is, however, contained. Contained means we believe there’s no wider threat to the wider community as a result of this incident.”
