GALA DAY FOR ROGER

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

AYRAD (3.25) can maintain Roger Charlton’s cracking run of form in the Gala Stakes at Sandown.

The six-year-old is classy on his day and landed this Listed contest last season en route to some decent efforts in better company.

His eye-catching comeback fifth in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot will have blown away any cobwebs and he can make all under Andrea Atzeni.

FETHIYE BOY (1.50) can give his rivals no quarter from the front in the opening JDX Handicap.

Ronald Harris’ three-year-old has been on an upward curve this term and can follow up his fluent recent Bath success from a kind draw in Stall 3.

ROUSSEL (2.20) can scorch home for Charlie Appleby in the Dragon Stakes.

The Kodiac juvenile was just denied by more experienced stablemate Sound And Silence in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and can go one better despite a tricky draw.

Andrew Balding’s MASTER OF WINE (2.50) should go close in the novice event.

The two-year-old put in a professional performance when just failing to reel in Falmouth Light over course and distance on his debut and can put his experience to good use.

The Besso Handicap looks trappy but I’m rowing in with Team Hannon’s EUGINIO (4.00).

The three-year-old put in his best effort to date when second in a strong Newmarket handicap in April and his shrewd handler will have left plenty to work on after a short break.

UAE KING (4.30) can reign for in-form Roger Varian in the staying handicap.

The Frankel colt landed his maiden with plenty in hand at Haydock and should relish this extra two furlongs.

The Carlburg handler can bag an across-the-cards double with SUN LOVER (3.35) at Doncaster. The four-year-old ran a blinder to finish second in a competitive York handicap and should build on that in these calmer waters.

It’s hard to get away from JUSTICE LADY in the fillies’ handicap. David Elsworth’s mare was a good third in a decent contest at Newmarket last time and should thrive on the likely strong pace off a 1lb lower mark.

■ Musselburgh’s next meeting on July 14 could still go ahead after the deadline set by the British Horseracing Authority to stage the fixture was extended until noon today.
