EURO TEST PREP DON

- ARBROATH .... 1 ABERDEEN .... 3

TONY DOCHERTY insists Aberdeen will be ready for Bosnian cracks Siroki Brijeg after scoring three in their penultimate warm-up game.

Greg Stewart bagged his first goal for the Dons following last week’s loan switch from Birmingham after Adam Rooney prodded home at the back post.

Jayden Stockley nodded in a corner 12 minutes from time before Arbroath sub Kane Hester pulled one back with a well-placed shot.

Derek McInnes’ side will face Brijeg in the second round of Europa League qualifying after the Bosnians saw off Kazakh outfit Ordabasy last night.

And McInnes’ No.2 says they’ll be prepared for next Thursday’s first leg – despite frustration over their failure to shut up shop against League One opposition.

Docherty said: “We’re a wee bit disappointed we didn’t keep a clean sheet but we’ve done a lot of hard work and it’s definitely a process.

“There were a lot of good, polished performances in the first 70 minutes so we are happy with that. We get into the real stuff in a week and we have another tough game ahead on Sunday against Doncaster where we will get a good 90 minutes into the majority of players who will be starting on Thursday night.

“Siroki are a very good side. They’re a well-drilled team and we know it will be a difficult game. They have strengths and put in good performances home and away so they definitely merit being through.

“We know we have to be at our best to beat them but we will be ready.”

The Dons could have scored more after Stewart sent a low cross across goal just three minutes in.

Mark Reynolds’ corner looked close to finding the net soon after only for Arbroath No.1 Ricky Gomes to punch clear on the line.

The Red Lichties almost opened the second-half scoring but Joe Lewis scrambled to deny a David Gold header.
