Sparksfly asTaylor facesup toOhara

HANDLERS had to rush to separate super-lightweight rivals Josh Taylor and Ohara Davies yesterday as their weigh-in threatened to turn into the real thing.

Edinburgh boxer Taylor prodded Davies in both cheeks with his index finger as they traded insults while posing for head-to-head pictures ahead of tonight’s Braehead Arena bout.

The Londoner reacted by shoving his head into the Commonwealth champion’s face and it was at that point the situation threatened to get out of hand.

Moments earlier Davies scaled nine stone, 13lbs and 12ozs while Taylor was bang on the 10st limit.

Although order was soon restored, Taylor warned Davies – who labelled the Scot and his team “bums” 24 hours earlier – he’s going to pay for disrespecting him on social media.

The 26-year-old said: “I dislike him, simple as that. He was the one who started all the stuff on Twitter after I boxed Dave Ryan and he’s the one who has been doing all the bad-mouthing.

“There’s no chance of me embracing him at the end of the fight. Once I see him defeated – on the canvas or on points – I’ll say, ‘See you later’ and that will be it.

“Usually if boxers embrace at the end of a fight it’s because there’s mutual respect on the basis they are genuinely nice guys.

“But this fellow is an a*** so there won’t even be any shaking hands, just, ‘Cheers for that.’”
