FRUIT OF THE LOOM

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

LAMLOOM (3.50) can front a lucrative afternoon for David O’Meara on Ayr’s exciting July Raceday.

The son of Cape Cross has run with credit in maidens and put in his best effort to date when easily dismissing Liquid Gold at today’s venue last time.

The form of that race has worked out well and the three-year-old can do plenty of damage in handicaps for his shrewd trainer.

The Helmsley handler can enjoy a double when MUSCIKA (2.45) lands the RacingUK Handicap.

The Kyllachy gelding bounced back from a mediocre effort at York when landing a trappy handicap over course and distance last time and a 5lb hike is unlikely to stop him now.

ANOTHER BATT (1.45) was a decent eighth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and George Scott’s battle-hardened juvenile can see off some promising opposition in the opener. Richard Guest’s MY GIRL MAISIE (2.15) will take all the beating in the six-furlong handicap.

A winner at Carlisle in May, the filly put in another decent effort when fifth next time at Doncaster and is still on a workable mark against some exposed rivals.

GUITAR PETE (3.15) should have too much class for his rivals in the staying event.

Nicky Richards’ gelding was a Grade 1 winner over hurdles in his prime and looks well handicapped on his first start on the Level since 2013. JACK DEXTER (4.25) can roar back to his best in the feature five-furlong contest. The eight-year-old has been a tremendous servant to Jim Goldie over the years and is on an attractive mark after his fine fourth in the Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle last month.

GREAT COLACI (4.55) can strike for Redcar trainer Gillian Boanas in the apprentices’ contest. The four-year-old made a successful start for his new connections when out-battling Kelpie Spirit at Musselburgh last time and can follow up under a 2lb penalty.

■ Ulysses is in good shape after his gritty success in Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.

However, trainer Sir Michael Stoute will give the four-year-old more time to recover from his epic defeat of Barney Roy before deciding on future targets.

Stoute said: “Let’s go home and see how he is in 10 days’ time.

“I wouldn’t rule out going back up to a mile and a half as he won the Gordon Stakes last year and ran a big race at Santa Anita.”
