TWO men have appeared in court in Mauritius in connection with the murder of a Scottish mum who was killed in front of her young son.

Raiders broke into Janice Farman’s home in Albion and smothered her in bed at about 1am on Friday.

Her 10-year-old son Gavin watched as his mum tried to fight off the robbers before she died.

The brave boy rang Janice’s colleague and told them his mum wasn’t breathing.

The gang stole cash and jewellery before fleeing in Janice’s Nissan Tiida, which was later discovered by officers at a roadside.

Two men, both aged 25, were arrested on Monday in connection with the killing of Janice, 47, who is thought to be from Clydebank.

The suspects, from the Quatre Bornes area of the Indian Ocean island, appeared in a local court yesterday, where they were charged with murder.

They are due to appear again next week.

Gavin’s father – Janice’s ex-husband Jean Baptiste Mootoo – was abroad at the time of the murder so his son was taken to a Mauritian child development unit.

Janice had been in Mauritius since 2004, where she worked as managing director of PECS (Mauritius) Ltd, a privately-owned group of companies.

She previously lived in West Kilbride, Ayrshire, with her then husband Jason Farman. They married in 2000 and divorced in 2005.

A Mauritius police spokesman said: “Yesterday, the police arrested two suspects, both of them men aged 25.

“They did appear in court today and were charged with murder.

“They have been remanded until Tuesday next week when they will appear in court and did not make a plea at this stage.”
