THE SISTER of a teenager who drowned at a notorious quarry has backed calls for it to be filled in after the latest death at the site.

Shannon Mckay – whose brother John, 18, died in 2015 – shared a petition on social media demanding action over Prestonhill Quarry in Inverkeithing, Fife.

The quarry claimed its third life in less than three years when teacher Kelda Henderson, 36, died on an organised dive on Sunday evening.

John died despite his friends battling to pull him from the freezing waters in the flooded quarry in June 2015.

Cameron Lancaster, 18, had drowned 10 months earlier.

Pleading for the quarry to be filled in, Shannon, 21, wrote: “I lost my little brother here. It’s a death trap. Absolutely sickens me this hasn’t been done yet.”

Cameron’s mum Gillian Barclay also backed calls for the quarry to be drained.

Gillian, 53, said she heard the rescue helicopter on Sunday from her Dalgety Bay home.

She said: “It sent a shiver through the family. It’s made me very angry, actually, that no more has been done to make this quarry safe.”

The quarry and surrounding land is privately owned.

Previous notices by Fife Council to force the owners to increase security have been returned unopened.
