SOARAWAY SUCCESS RETURNS

Inspirational event has drawn massive crowds to the Ayrshire coast in the past and the spectacle on offer this year promises to be no different

-

YOU don’t need to be a plane spotter to be in awe of the aerial acrobatics at the Scottish International Airshow.

The weekend event has become Scotland’s largest festival, attracting more than 120,000 people, and record crowds are expected again this year.

A combination of nostalgia, skill and the extraordinary sight of historic and modern aircraft performing stunning aerobatic displays in the skies are just some of the reasons people continue to love airshows.

And this year, the world-famous Red Arrows will return to the event on the Ayrshire coast, which runs on September 2 and 3. Described as Scotland’s biggest air party, there will be more than 20 flying displays and 20 other attractions including a funfair at this family-friendly – and free – event.

As Scotland continues to mark the centenary of World War I, the Scottish International Airshow will demonstrate the best of our aviation past and our most modern fighter jets today.

This includes an RAF Typhoon fighter, and the Battle of Britain memorial flight with a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, all taking flight on the Saturday.

A highlight on Sunday will be the spectacular Red Arrows aerobatic team.

Organiser Doug Mclean says the airshow promotes three “Es” – Entertainment, Education and Economy.

“We aim to educate and inspire young people to believe they can have a career in aviation and aerospace and show that Ayrshire, and Scotland, has a thriving aerospace sector,” he says.

The airshow appeals to all ages and Doug added: “Everyone from children to grandparents love an airshow and this has become the biggest family entertainment spectacle in Scotland.”

All flights will take place over the sea and spectators will have an unobstructed, clear view from several locations along Ayr’s beachfront.
