restart and Deacon flashed a drive over at one end then Buchanan should have done better than volley wide at the other after combining with Vaughan.

Deacon came closer in the 66th minute but his volley curled just too high to trouble Rovers No.1 Lennox.

Moussa almost made an instant impact when he was introduced with 20 minutes to go but the Tunisian could not get the ball out from under his feet and was snuffed out in the six yard box.

But the new signing was not to be denied in the 83rd minute, holding off his marker to drive in Allan’s free-kick.

Vaughan swept home a low equaliser but with penalties looming Hendry nodded in to snatch the win for Dundee. SUB Kalvin Orsi netted a penalty-shootout winner to claim Brechin a bonus point.

Ironically it was a late Mark Millar spot-kick that forced penalties as he cancelled out an Isaac Layne opener.

Brechin boss Darren Dods said: “I’m pleased we won the bonus point but it should never have gone to penalties.”

Layne terrorised the Forfar defence for much of the first half and set up Euan Spark for what should have been the opener only for him to fluff his 10-yard effort.

At the other end keeper Graeme Smith brillantly denied Matthew Aitken.

The hosts made it 1-0 midway through the second half as Layne unleashed an unstoppable 20-yard strike beyond Marc McCallum.

But Miller levelled from the spot in injury time after Willie Dyer’s foul on David Cox. GARY JARDINE admits City had to dig deep to triumph in their penalty shoot-out.

Ashley Grimes netted a double for the hosts but goals from Berwick’s Aaron Murrell and Patrick Scullion took the game to penalties which City edged 4-2.

Gaffer Jardine said: “They were the better side but our boys dug in and our work ethic got us the extra points.”

City took the lead when David Verlaque shot’s was deflected home by Ashley Grimes on 23 minutes.

Murrell levelled for Berwick before Marc Laird fed in Grimes who curled in from 18 yards.

Scullion score a late equaliser on 84 minutes to give Berwick hope but City had too much from them in the shoot-out.
