DON’T RISK IT GRIFF

-

From Back Page tonight’s Linfield clash with a calf injury. But if the Hoops finish the job he could miss the first leg in the next round against Rosenborg or Dundalk if UEFA issue a ban for provoking punters in last week’s clash in Belfast.

Griffiths was targeted by louts who launched missiles and even got booked for timewasting when trying to show the ref a Buckfast bottle thrown on to the pitch.

Rodgers admitted his disbelief at the yellow card but admitted Griffiths should have thought twice about the scarf show. The case will be heard tomorrow and Rodgers said: “For tying a scarf round a post, that’s ultimately what it is.

“Then players will be knocking on your door wondering why they’re not playing. The consequence could be you lose your place in the team – and it’s not a team you want to be out of too often for any other reason than being injured.”

Celtic also landed a charge for picking up five yellow cards and will contest both issues. Rodgers added: “We play with a lot of tactical discipline and I have no worries about the squad. Sometimes you go into European football and the refs and officials can be sensitive, especially in a ‘British’ game.”

Olivier Ntcham will be in the squad but Rodgers confirmed Emilio Izaguirre could be heading for an exit as the player is in talks with Saudi side Al-Faiha. KOLO TOURE has revealed he is close to agreeing a coaching deal at Celtic.

And the 36-year-old, who made 17 Hoops appearances last term, declared his intention to play on for two more seasons.

Ex-Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool star Toure said: “I still have it within me to continue playing for a season or two.

“I have discussed matters the furthest with Celtic. The most likely path for me is a new one-year contract that includes coaching.

“Although Celtic is my likeliest destination I won’t close the door on any other club.”
