Organisations engineer a way to attract kids
■■TOP companies are taking part in this year’s Engineering Open House Day, which lets young people and parents take a peak behind the scenes in the world of engineering.
Organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the annual event – which takes place on July 28 – is designed to highlight the important role engineers play in everyday life and to encourage more youngsters to consider careers in the industry.
Organisations across the UK, including Thorpe Park, Madam Tussauds, Tower Bridge, Dr Martens, Sellafield Site, the Royal Mail, the BBC and ITN will open their doors for a fun and educational day out.
Events range from boat tours to 3D printing workshops and going behind the scenes of popular TV channels.
Encouraging young people to take up engineering careers is vital to plug the skills’ gap – it’s estimated that almost two million new engineers will be needed over the next decade.
