MILES OUT IN FRONT

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

FIVEHUNDREDMILES can go the distance on Racing UK Club Day at Hamilton.

John Patrick Shanahan’s gelding (4.10) has a fair record at the Lanarkshire venue and put in a career best when scoring over a mile there last month.

The four-year-old was unlucky to meet an in-form Gulf Of Poets over today’s course and distance last time and can go one better off the same mark.

ALBERT STREET (2.0) is the way to go in the novice contest. Bryan Smart’s juvenile learned plenty when fourth of 13 on his debut at Beverley 12 days ago and will come on for the experience.

CAMANCHE GREY (2.30) can claim a trappy sprint for Ben Haslam. The six-year-old beat the useful Dutch Dream over course and distance a fortnight ago and can shrug off a 5lb hike.

In-form Jedd O’Keeffe can bag another winner with METISIAN (3.05), who joins fellow Middleham stable raider Desert Ruler in heading to Hamilton. The threeyear-old looked useful when landing a 17-runner handicap at Doncaster last time and is capable of plenty of improvement.

And in the final race of the day John Quinn’s CATASTROPHE (5.15) can make it a black day for the bookies.

The gelding just failed to catch Amy Blair here last time and can go close again in first-time cheekpieces.

The Yorkshire handler can also strike at Leicester with SHAHEEN (4.20) with the two-year-old able to build on his easy Redcar maiden success when switched to handicap company.

Richard Hannon’s LIMELITE (3.50) is worth a punt in the fillies’ handicap at the same venue.

The three-year-old has improved plenty over seven furlongs and can build on last month’s cosy success at Newbury.

■ Ana O’Brien faces a long spell on the sidelines after being injured at Killarney on Tuesday.

The Irish jockey will be out until at least November after fracturing her cheekbone and two vertebrae in a horrific fall from brother Joseph’s Druids Cross.

However, the 21-year-old – daughter of trainer Aidan – received a boost when scans showed she had no major head injuries and will not need surgery.

■ Limato is thriving after his terrific second in last Saturday’s July Cup at Newmarket.

Henry Candy’s dual Group One winner, who finished behind Harry Angel at HQ, will now go for next month’s Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville as long as the going is suitable.
