Poll finds Davis is the best of a bad bunch

-

DAVID Davis is the Tory faithful’s top choice to replace Theresa May – but he’s really not that popular.

The Brexit Secretary won just 21 per cent support from party members in an academic study to find May’s successor, but that was enough to make him number one on the list.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is his main rival on 17 per cent, with eccentric Brexit fundamentalist Jacob Rees-Mogg taking a surprise third place on just six per cent.

Twenty-six per cent of members said they didn’t know or wouldn’t say who they wanted, and 71 per cent said they didn’t want May to quit despite her general election disaster.

May insists she wants to remain Prime Minister for years.

Few experts believe she will get her wish.
