NAPPIES SCRAPPED OVER BABY BLISTERS

Asda pull own brand product for tests after dad claims on Facebook that son had reaction to diapers

ASDA have withdrawn their own-label newborn nappies after a tot suffered severe blistering following an adverse reaction.

The supermarket chain were alerted to a possible bad batch of their Little Angels nappies after customer Jordan Bartliff posted pictures on Facebook showing his premature baby’s painful red raw skin.

He said the boy, who was born five weeks early, had been wearing the nappies for three weeks without any problems.

However, a potential chemical reaction to Little Angels then left him needing oxygen.

Asda have withdrawn the nappies while they investigate. They are carrying out tests on nappies used by Jordan’s son as well as others in the range.

Jordan has warned other parents to beware of a possible risk of blisters to sensitive young skin.

Urging new parents to “be vigilant and careful with these nappies”, the anxious dad told Facebook followers his tiny tot suffered an agonising reaction to a Little Angels nappy within 60 minutes of being changed.

Jordan, of Doncaster, said: “We opened a fresh pack of newborn Little Angels to put on the baby. We go to change the nappy an hour later and these pictures are the results.

“He’s not allergic to them – that has been ruled out. It looks like a chemical reaction.”

Claiming his son fell victim to a bad batch, he added: “I wouldn’t want it happening to any other little soul.”

Lizzy Massey, Asda’s vice-president of own brand, said: “Our hearts go out to the Bartliff family and we hope their baby son makes a full recovery soon.

“We’re in touch with his dad and have collected the nappies so we can test them along with others in the batch. We take our responsibility to parents most seriously.

“As a precaution, we have decided to remove our Little Angels newborn nappies from sale until we know why this happened.

“Customers should be assured Little Angels newborn nappies are made in a completely closed, automated environment and thoroughly tested to make sure they meet quality and safety standards.”
