JOHN Lewis have been named the top-rated brand by British consumers.

Sony, Marks & Spencer, Amazon and the BBC hit the top 10, although the research was compiled before the broadcaste­rs published details of staff pay.

While John Lewis were No1, the Beeb featured heavily with their iPlayer in second, BBC One in sixth place and BBC Two ninth.

The YouGov BrandIndex list put Sony third with Marks & Spencer fourth, Amazon in fifth place, Samsung at seven, Heinz at eight and Boots at 10.

The UK research looked at perception­s of a brand’s quality, value, impression, satisfacti­on, reputation and whether consumers would recommend the brand to others.

Amelia Brophy, YouGov’s UK head of data products, said: “What is striking is that brands such as John Lewis and the BBC have successful­ly moved with the times, providing services in AMERICAN football T-shirts are set to hit Sainsbury’s shelves as the chain tap into surging demand for the sport in the UK.

Sainsbury’s tie-up with the National Football League will launch this week with eight T-shirts representi­ng each team playing in games in London this autumn. This includes the Miami Dolphins and online settings while continuing to make a virtue of their brand heritage.”

In the global list, Google beat their sister company YouTube and Facebook to top the rankings.

Technology firms featured heavily, with Samsung fourth, WhatsApp in fifth place and Apple’s iPhone in sixth.

Amazon were seventh and the top 10 was completed by Toyota, Adidas and Colgate.

AMERICAN fashion label Michael Kors have tied up a £896million deal for shoemakers Jimmy Choo.

Kors chairman and chief executive John Idol said it was the “ideal partner” for Jimmy Choo, who were founded in London in 1996 and boast big-name fans including Beyonce and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Idol said he would work with Choo chief executive Pierre Denis to increase the number of 150 stores, treble their annual sales to $1billion (£767million), grow their online arm and make more men’s luxury shoes.

Jimmy Choo, who put themselves up for sale in April following a strategic review, said they were ready to “embark on its next phase of growth”.

Sainsbury’s commercial director James Brown said: “American football has become hugely popular – with 13million UK fans, we’re on to another winner.”
