SOMEONE’S GONNA GET KILT!

-

the show and I think some just make a weekend of it by booking a hotel and turning it into a wee holiday.”

Craig’s newest show, Someone’s Gonna Get Kilt, starts with a preview on Thursday and runs until August 27 at Venue 150 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

And he still finds it amazing people don’t recognise him when he isn’t wearing one of his trademark kilts.

He said: “I love wearing my kilt but I’m just as happy in my trousers. I’m always surprised by people coming up to me and saying, ‘I didn’t recognise you without your kilt’, even though it doesnae cover ma puss.”

While Craig is a well kent face in Scotland and Australia, he’s not been on the TV as much as he should have been. But he has a reason, saying: “I loved doing the stuff on telly but I always thought of myself as a stand-up comedian first and foremost and the telly was a lovely extra.

“If it came along it would be fun but I’m also very happy doing what I’m doing.”

He would like to be a voice in an animated cartoon though. He said: “I’m always thinking of funny voices and accents and how much fun that would be to attach them to a character in the film.”

This year was another first for Craig – a gig at Glastonbury in June.

He said: “That was one of the loveliest, friendliest experiences I’ve ever had.

“Everyone was so chilled and up for a fun time – maybe that was the weather. Anyway, it was much more like a carnival than I expected and not just a music festival. And it’s on a scale I couldn’t have imagined – almost like a city in itself.”

After his success there he can’t wait for his latest Fringe. And despite the show’s title, he promises no one will be harmed.

He said: “Nope, it’s as effervescent as ever. The title is really just for a laugh but the show is always about observations from everyday life that we can all relate to and funny stories from my travels.

“I’m gonna storm on to that stage in my kilt and have a wee riot with the audience.”

No wonder the Fringe keep asking him back – he’s just the ticket. RICK FULTON
