“He may say different knowing him but he could never have expected to end up at a club the size of Liverpool.
“But it doesn’t surprise me he has done well at Hull and earned his move.
“It also wouldn’t surprise me if he moves on to an even higher level than Liverpool, that says everything about Andy.
“Andy’s a quiet boy but once you get to know him he is quite outgoing and loud. He’s a good guy to be around and we really hit it off at Hampden.
“People look at his persona as being reserved but they are wrong as he has plenty of dig about him on a pitch.
“He also doesn’t care who he’s playing against and that’s one of the biggest reasons why he has reached this level.
“No team or player would faze him and that’s a great strength to have.
“The type of personality Andy has will ensure he’ll go into Liverpool with a belief that he’s going to do well. It also helps they don’t have a settled left-back at the moment.
“I wouldn’t surprise me if he was to go in and play every week.
“There are Liverpool fans who aren’t sure about Andy – I have one in my dressing room – but I believe he’ll surprise everyone.”

Connolly believes timing was everything and reckons having Rangers in League Two during season 2012-13 helped to put them in the spotlight.
He said: “There has always been talent in Scotland’s lowest league, there are a lot of talented boys there now. It’s just that Rangers were in the league when we were at Queen’s Park so there was a greater focus on it.
“It was fortunate we had a lot of good young players such as Blair, Lawrence and Andy.
“We were all coming through at the same time and were such good friends which I believe helped make it so much better.”
