I know from playing in England that fans down there believe the Scottish League is a backwater.

But when guys come up here they realise it’s one of the most intense leagues you will find.

The players have workrate and fitness in abundance and anyone coming up here needs to be ready to handle that.

It’s okay at Ibrox but playing at a place like Fir Park is hard – as the new guys will discover when they go there on the opening day of the season.

With the pitch so tight to the stands and an atmosphere whipping their players up it’s a hell of a place to start the season.

Dorrans will know that and that’s vital as the opening game can set the tone for the season.

That’s also why I’m glad to see Rangers’ last pre-season game will be away to Sheffield Wednesday, that’s a tough place to go.

It’s fine playing against good players like Watford’s who they beat 2-1 on Wednesday but when it’s behind closed doors, as that one was, it’s not the same.

But playing at a busy Hillsborough is better suited to setting them up for the game at Motherwell who look like they are on the up.
