Dentist to the stars dead at just 39

TRIBUTES PAID TO MEDIC JAMIE Married father fixed the teeth of celebs in music, sport and film

TRIBUTES were last night paid to an award-winning celebrity dentist who has died aged 39.

Jamie Newlands, former clinical director of The Berkeley Clinic in Glasgow, passed away on Friday.

It is understood his clients included actor Robert Carlyle, Texas star Sharleen Spiteri and singer Paolo Nutini.

No details were available last night on the cause of Jamie’s death.

Friends and colleagues took to Facebook to pay their respects to the former DJ, who is survived by wife Amy and the couple’s baby daughter.

Finbar Bryson wrote: “Thoughts and prayers are with all at The Berkeley. God bless you guys.”

Abhishek Singh posted: “Rest in peace, Jamie Newlands. Inspiring colleague and a gentleman.”

Nilesh Parmar said: “Going to miss you, man. You inspired me and I will always look up to you. I hope you’re in a better place now. Rest In Peace” Hew Morrison posted: “Jamie, you were one in a million. Kind, generous, superintel­ligent and, above all else, a proper gent. I always looked up to you. So sad. My thoughts are with your family. Rest in peace, mate.” Jonathan Herbert, who lives in Doha, wrote: “Just yesterday I was telling a group of friends about you and our many Djing adventures, how you managed to teach me how to DJ in one week and had me playing Friday nights at the Cube.

“Finding out this morning that you are no longer with us, mate.

“No words to express how shocked and saddened. Rest in peace. My thoughts are with your ladies and your family.”

Ex-Radio Clyde DJ Suzie McGuire wrote: “God bless you, sweetheart”.

Former Rangers players Allan McGregor and Alan Hutton and former Radio Clyde DJ Diane Knox were also patients of Jamie.

In 2014, Diane tweeted a black-andwhite selfie with a beaming smile and wrote: “Happy girl. As a birthday pressie to myself I gave my smile a wee makeover. Thank you Jamie Newlands.”

Jamie was named Scotland’s Best Young Dentist in 2009 and then scooped the prestigiou­s Best Dentist award in 2010.

He was a leading figure at the Berkeley Clinic in Glasgow’s West End, who offer services ranging from dental implants and veneers to teeth whitening and root canal treatment.

A pre-recorded message at The Berkeley Clinic told callers last night: “The clinic will be closed due to a bereavemen­t within the practice and will reopen on Tuesday morning.”
