I WAS lured by the headlines announcing “the most annoying child star ever” and had to click to see who this apparent demon was.

But when I watched the video of internet star JoJo Siwa talking to This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford, I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about.

She seemed like a sweet, bubbly, all-American girl full of chatter, like most 14-year-olds.

More annoying to me were the inevitable nasty comments from Twitter trolls.

One said: “This JoJo Siwa is THE MOST annoying person I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Another added: “#ThisMornin­g how annoying is that girl’s voice talking a million miles an hour?”

That’s right, people sitting at home judging a child who is putting herself out there to pursue her dreams and, thanks to her signature hair bows and boundless energy, has attracted more than four million YouTube subscriber­s.

It caught my attention because my own kids both had YouTube channels – not quite so many subscriber­s, I might add – but they often talked about “the haters”. The people out there, some grown adults, who leave nasty comments on children’s videos discouragi­ng them from spreading their creative wings and making their presence felt in the world. Both my boys have been put off YouTube because of it.

Now, part of everyday parenting is to help kids understand that there are always going to be people online and in our daily lives who want to bring us down. But the scale of abuse on the internet is staggering, because there seem to be endless cowards hiding behind their screens and
