Boss Pedro: I now have a team of men

-

From Back Page League shocker when Caixinha’s side went out of the competition to Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn.

Bruno Alves and Graham Dorrans have since arrived at Ibrox and the Gers boss reckons other players have settled in that time.

The win against the Owls came after a midweek victory against Watford behind closed doors and last week’s draw against Marseille.

And Caixinha said: “It was not easy to pass that hangover but we need to look forward and now we are getting the momentum.

“We are ready for the Motherwell game. We still have one more week and have to respect the opponent.

“But at this club the only option is winning. That’s why it was important for us to conclude the week like this – with the result and the performance and how we controlled the game.

“What has changed? I don’t need to answer. You just look at the match report and see the players and you see the difference.

“Of course we needed to change the personality and character of the players. And having the men in our squad we now have.

“Bruno is a massive player. He’s a fantastic leader, a fantastic safety for us. But it’s not only him.

“They have had time to get to know each other. This is the first week from Wednesday until now the team has been all together.

“We have players who are terrific on the training pitch but when they get in a game they don’t do the same.

“But now we have players who train hard, work hard and play hard.

“I am not a magician but I am someone with a strong mentality and a winning mentality to take this club forward. However, we need time and we know we have the right tools now.”

James Tavernier missed yesterday’s win after picking up a foot injury against Watford but Caixinha expects him to return to training tomorrow.

And Jordan Rossiter scored for the Under-20s yesterday against Wolves after asking Caixinha if he could travel with the youth team for vital game time.

Caixinha praised opening scorer Windass for his display after the 23-year-old was recently linked with a move away from Ibrox.

The Gers boss said: “I was totally happy with Josh. This is the kind of performance we know he is capable of. ”

Caixinha refused to discuss Jamie Walker’s situation at Hearts with the Gers target left out of the Jambos squad on Saturday.

But Caixinha said: “We know what we want and we know the hard work and sacrifice the chairman and the board are making.

“We know our targets and we still have a month until the transfer window shuts.”
