THE tiny winner of Best Actress for the Scottish Comedy Awards was unable to attend the bash last night – because she was tucked up in bed.

Three-year-old Isla Nelson from Glasgow, who also won Best Online Comedy for News At Two with her dad Mark instead sent a video message to VIP guests and judges at the fourth annual event in Edinburgh’s Le Monde hotel.

Isla started doing comedy sketches with her dad Mark when she was just two.

Having made about 12 videos, they have been viewed more than 100million times online.

Scottish Comedy Awards organiser Alan Anderson said: “Isla warmed the hearts of more than 100million people online with her loveable cheek.”

In her videos, she mocks Prime Minister Theresa May: “Strong and stable, strong and stable, that’s all she says. It’s a Government dad, not Ikea furniture,” and builds a wall with logo bricks, saying: “I’m playing Donald Trump.”

Dad Mark said: “Sometimes Isla will come out with things that are funnier than what I’ve originally written. She’s started directing herself now, which is hilarious.”

BBC Scotland executive producer of social media Anthony Browne, said: “Isla is the breakout star of our popular Short Stuff comedy series on BBC Scotland’s Facebook page.”

The night also saw Richard Gadd win Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and an Outstanding Contribution award given to Richard Dick, writer of Have I Got News For You.

The legendary Funny Farm Collective from 1988 consisting of comedians Fred MacAulay, Bruce Morton, Parrot, Libby MacArthur, Stu Who and David Cosgrove got back together to collect a Lifetime Achievement Award. Bay City Roller Stuart Woody Wood, Lottery winner Jane Park, and Scottish Big Brother finalist Andrew Cruickshanks received a light roasting in the audience.

STV’s Ewen Cameron and Gerry Cassidy, Scotland Tonight’s Rona Dougall, X Factors Caitlyn Vanbeck, and comedy duo The Dolls also had a laugh and joke during the ceremony. Other winners on the night included Scottish mindreader Colin Cloud, who recently wowed Mel B on America’s Got Talent by telling her what she had for dinner, and Still Game won Best TV show.

More than 170 nominations were received from across the Scottish comedy industry and whittled down by a panel of 10 comedians to be judged by those those in the industry.

Other guest attendees on the night included Scots boyband Monroe, Moon Dogs and new Disney actor Christy O’Donnell, King Arthur actor Craig McGinley and Trainspotting’s James McElvar, who played a young Sick Boy.
