They married at Bowden Kirk in Melrose at the start of July, four days after moving into a home in the Borders town.
The couple are now taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge – climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. Together with a group of friends, they are hoping to raise £50,000 for the Breast Cancer Now charity to fund research into finding a cure and new treatments.
They set off on Sunday and will scale heights totalling 11,200ft while also cycling the 430 miles between Snowden, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.
Sarah said: “It’s certainly not a traditional honeymoon but it is for a cause very close to our hearts.”
Piers said: “Meeting Sarah at Murrayfield, before she knew of her diagnosis, was an amazing day.
“She is larger than life and has a unchallengeable drive for life.
“On receiving the news of cancer, her uplifting attitude towards taking on life’s hurdles wasn’t deterred. “Her determination is infectious. It made me more determined to provide her support and it strengthened our relationship as it fostered a mutual respect.
