HAVANA GREAT TIME

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

HAVANA GREY looks smoking hot in the Molecombe Stakes (3.0) on Day 2 of Glorious Goodwood.

Karl Burke’s juvenile has excelled this season and put his Royal Ascot blip behind him when hacking up in a Sandown Listed event.

Still on the upgrade, he can burn off some exciting rivals from the front under P J McDonald.

HAWKERLAND (1.50) can swoop for in-form Marcus Tregoning in the gruelling Goodwood Stakes. The classy four-year-old is steadily progressive and absolutely bolted up on his first try over two miles at Chepstow last time.

The form of that race was worked out fairly well and he can complete his hat-trick over today’s extreme distance.

Mark Johnston loves a winner at this meeting and he can take the Matchbook Handicap with HOCHFELD (2.25). A typical improver for the Middleham maestro, the colt was unlucky to run into the useful Tor in a muddling contest at Hamilton last time.

Admirably consistent, he should return to winning ways today thanks to the likely strong pace and soft ground.

RIBCHESTER (3.35) can claim a mouth-watering renewal of the Sussex Stakes.

Richard Fahey’s four-year-old is the best miler in Europe and landed his third Group 1 when hacking up in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.

Proven at Goodwood, the son of Iffraaj should have too many guns for the high-class Churchill.

DEAR SIRE (3.25) looks above par for Donald McCain on Golf Perthshire Raceday at Perth. The grey was an impressive winner at Stratford and can improve past some exposed opponents.

Jackie Stephen’s WELCOME BEN (2.50) scored with plenty in hand at this same venue last time out and can round off a four-timer in the St Fillans Handicap Chase.

INDIAN TEMPLE (4.00) can land the Gleneagles Chase for handler Tim Reed. The eight-year-old cruised to victory over course and distance in June and can follow up.

The Walsh-Mullins axis can lift the Galway Plate with SHANESHILL (5.35). The eightyear-old is a Grade 1-level chaser at best and should be primed by his handler after some good efforts over hurdles at Auteuil.
