HAPPY ENDING INJURED SCOT TIES KNOT Philippines robbery victim is wed 16 days after attack
A SCOT who was gunned down in a robbery hours before his wedding in the Philippines has finally married his sweetheart.
Tarek Naggar, from Milngavie, near Glasgow, was shot in the street by a motorcycle gang who made off with his wallet with only £10 in it.
The 44-year-old made an amazing recovery after the shooting, which happened as he had a drink with fiancee Angie Bacaron in a late night bar in Cebu City on July 20.
The couple had to postpone their wedding until Saturday when Tarek was fit enough to walk down the aisle. Tarek, who was released from his Philippines hospital for the ceremony, wore a kilt and stuffed painkillers into his sporran which he says helped him with the pain.
Speaking after the wedding, Tarek said: “I’m still in a lot of pain and had to take paracetamol out of my sporran during the ceremony to keep me going. But nothing was going to stop me marrying the love of my life.
“I think everyone was happy to see me on my feet again.”
Angie later said the ceremony couldn’t have gone better. It took place in front of 100 guests at St Thomas de Villanueva church in Cebu – a mile from where Tarek was shot in the bungled robbery.
Tarek drank whisky with best man Chris McLaughlin, 40, before getting hitched on Saturday but left the reception at 7pm.
The couple, who met in Sweden, where Tarek is living, were planning to relocate to Thailand where fiancée Angie had secured a job teaching English.
Doctors said it was a miracle Tarek survived as the bullet just missed his heart. funding from Europe from 2007 to 2016.
