Don’t blame Brexit HAVING listened to Remain politicians and pundits blaming current airport delays on Brexit and warning of more to come, it is time to say enough is enough.

The passport controls causing delays have nothing to do with Brexit. It is a result of free movement within the Schengen travel area that has enabled terrorists to move freely across large parts of Europe.

With heightened terrorist threats, some countries’ failure to prepare for new checks and the start of the holidays, a perfect storm of disruption has been created. All travellers, including all EU citizens, are subject to checks. Brexit will be difficult and there will be problems that can be laid at its door but please stop blaming it for everything from the economy to the weather. Paul Lewis, Edinburgh Crossing clash DYED-IN-THE-WOOL nationalists are airing their republican sympathies online by demanding “Queen Nicola” should open the new Forth crossing instead of the Queen (Elizabeth, that is).

That the Queen is head of state and that she will perform the Queensferry Crossing opening ceremony 53 years to the day since she opened the Forth Road Bridge count for little. If you’re a passionate separatist your focus is division, as represented by the SNP and its leader, not continuity and heritage. The majority in Scotland are more circumspect. Martin Redfern,
