DOYLE: I’LL LIVE IT UP IN LONDON

- MARK WOODS

WHEN the whole nation was beaming with joy during the party of London 2012, Eilidh Doyle was down in the dumps and begging for it to end.

But Scotland’s most successful athlete has vowed to soak up the party at the world championships whether she bags a medal or not.

The British team skipper, 30, kicks off her bid in the 400 metres hurdles tonight – back in the stadium where she was overawed and out of sync five years ago.

And Doyle admits that has given her all the incentive she needs to wipe the slate clean and make this visit one to remember.

She said: “I used that for Glasgow 2014. I’ve experienced a home Olympics and home Commonwealth Games and they were very different experiences. One I didn’t enjoy at all and one which was the very best event of my career.

“I used London to enjoy Glasgow and that will be what I’ll use to enjoy this. I’m glad I can make amends and go back into that stadium and try go out and do well.”

The triple world medallist is in with a shot at bagging a first individual global gong after stringing together a series of showings on the Diamond League circuit that have put her army of American rivals on notice.

And with Rio golden girl Dalilah Muhammad struggling for form, the ex-Euro champion claims it’s game on.

Doyle said: “I’ve beaten a few of them when they’ve come over to Europe. But hurdles are very hit and miss. It’s just the way it is. Sometimes you’ll get it and sometimes you won’t.”
